A section of the canyon where you can see the inner canyon more clearly. With this view you can see the oldest layers of the canyon: the Vishnu Schist (black bits) and Zoroaster Granite (just above the black bits). The Vishnu Schist averages about 1700 to 2000 million years old and consists mostly of mica schist. These layers were once the roots of an ancient mountain range as high as the Rockies.
